I just had another go at the whole light theme/ dark theme issue. I showed the javascript code responsible for toggling between the two themes to Grok, and Grok said it was buggy, and I should replace it with his fix. I have done that now. Let me know if this has fixed the issue. The website should now present in your system settings unless you toggled the mode manually.

TL;DR:
  • Dark/light theme should finally behave properly.
  • The site should respect your system preference when you visit for the first time.

Thanks for the feedback.

I just reinstalled the Prosilver forum theme (latest version).
To me, it looks the same as before. If anyone notices differences, let me know.

The forum is on the newest version of phpBB3 and the newest version of Prosilver. So the updates might be causing the visual changes.

It looks like this has happened to others as well. They propose a fix there. It might be worth trying this in this forum at some point.

When I first found the site was back up. It was in dark mode.

“ Oh no! “
I thought cause it was instantly something I didn’t like. But fortunately after reading some posts I found the light bulb button which made things better.
But something is still different? The text is it just me? Or is it harder to read?

Is there a way to make it more bold?

People should be able to log in with their forum credentials.

However, experience has shown that preserving passwords across the recent forum moves and upgrades seems to be a matter of luck. If you can’t log in, you can use the password reset feature of the gallery. I have just tried it out. (and realized the reset email is messed up with dark mode, so you need to select the email content with your mouse to see what it says)

Same. After the restoration, using Windows 11, it opens in dark mode for me with Chrome, Brave, Firefox, Opera, and Edge. [Shrug]. Same using Chrome under Linux Mint. (Didn't check other browsers under Mint.) However, if you're not using incognito mode, Chrome will remember the setting for the website.

I've been seeing the forum in dark mode when I enter the forum with Firefox

I was under the impression that the forum is in light mode by default. At least, whenever I open the site in an incognito window, it defaults to light mode.

I tried this in both Chrome and Safari and I consistently get the light mode as default.

But this seems to not be the case for you. Automagix has reported the same issue.

Can other people weigh in, do you guys see light or dark mode by default?

Maybe we need to switch to a different forum theme after all.

In the meantime, you should see a small light bulb icon at the top of the page. Clicking on that will switch the forum to light mode.
