One of the things I love so much about this genre is that the stakes are so high. In some legal slavery story-verses, it's literally life or death because the slavers can actually torture their slaves to death... and then eat them.I lay on my bed, unable to fall asleep. I couldn’t stop my terrified mind from imagining all the dire things my owner could do to me over the next three years.
In THIS story-verse however, slavers aren't allowed to do any such thing... but they CAN fuck you. So Avicia has re-introduced the life-or-death component into our story-verse. Because for Rocio, according to her worldview, believes that losing her virginity to anyone other than her husband on her wedding night means the destruction of her very soul.
So... it's back. The intensity is back, the dramatic tension is back, and we don't even need to make our story-verse eviler to do it. All we really needed was a sympathetic virgin protagonist and ka-POW, we're frantic.
